SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Facebook has acknowledged that its controversial word-of-mouth advertising system may collect information about a much wider group of people than previously disclosed, including Internet users who are not members of the social network. The company said in an email to Dow Jones late Wednesday that the month-old system, known as Beacon, may collect information on logged-out Facebook users or non-users. Facebook said it did not associate that information with individual users and deletes it.
